SAMMY Milk Mustache Scholarship

Got Milk? Each year, the Senior Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year fund gives twenty-five high school milk-obsessed seniors $7,500 each for sporting a substantially bushy milk mustache. Each winner gets $7,500, an invitation to the awards ceremony with fellow milk-mustache-sporting celebrities at The Milk House at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports, and will rock their own milk mustache advertisement in USA TODAY.

To apply, you need 75 whey protein-obsessed words of how you incorporate milk into your everyday diet and athletic training regimen. We would recommend sending along a photo of you sporting a freshly-grown milk-mustache to show them you mean business.

Discover Scholarship

While you may think credit card companies are evil, turns out Discover has a nice side. They give up to 10 scholarships per year, each one totaling a whopping $30,000 in scholarship money. Unlike any of the other scholarships on our crazy college scholarships site, you don’t really have to do anything out of the ordinary to apply for this scholarship. This is why we at Crazy College Scholarships consider this crazy scholarship to be crazy (I dare you to say Crazy College Scholarships three times fast. Do it now.) due to the fact that they’re giving away $30,000 to a high school Junior who just has to have a cumulative GPA over 2.75 for 9th and 10th grades and demonstrates leadership in their community, and describes an experience where they have had to overcome a significant challenge. Guys and Girls, this is the stuff you’ve been asked a million times before when applying to anything significant, and we know we all know what to say (and if you don’t, get crackin’). The craziest part? You don’t even need to be going to college to apply for this scholarship. You can use the funds towards any post-high school training, licensing, technical degrees, or college degrees. You can check out more information on Discover’s student-oriented services on their website, and more information on the scholarship on the Discover Scholarship Program website.

Vegetarian Scholarship

Do you pass on the meat, fish, and fowl? The Vegetarian Resource Group offers two $5000 scholarships to graduating high school students who promote vegetarianism in their schools and communities. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Vegetarian Resource Group can offer these scholarships every year. There is a pretty substantial application process for this crazy scholarship, including a thorough essay describing your vegetarian lifestyle, ambitions, as well as vegetarian-advice for non-vegetarians. While not required, it helps to know people who are involved in the vegetarian movement, and you can list them as references in your scholarship application. Your school of choice does not matter, nor does your field of study, as this is a lifestyle-based scholarship. However the more material you can provide to the scholarship board about your support for vegetarianism, the better. This can be in the form of writing, creative material, or any materials you’ve used relating to promoting vegetarianism in your community. One of the more interesting questions we found on the scholarship application is to describe “your perfect life in five years”. Maybe it’s just the veggies, but we would avoid mentioning meat in this scholarship application, unless it’s breathing and making cute noises.
The college scholarship application has an interesting note on it regarding the property of your work: Once you submit your work, it becomes property of the Vegetarian Resource Group, most likely for them to use to generate creative ideas for their efforts in promoting vegetarianism. So if you really support the veggies, then this weird scholarship is for you. You can find out more about the Vegetarian Scholarship on the Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship website.

American Welding Society Scholarship

Do you enjoy working with hot metal? You can get a scholarship. The American Welding Society offers a scholarship to one eligible student per year. That means tuition, books, and any other school-related needs are covered each year, but you need to reapply each year to get the scholarship more than once. To be eligible for this crazy college scholarship the student needs to be enrolled in a welding program, demonstrate financial need, exhibit a passion for welding based on a personal statement, and a brief biography of your life as a young welder. You can’t pull a fast one with this scholarship and get the American Welding Society to pay for any college degree – if you change your course of study at all during your college career, they will pull your funds and leave you to fend for yourself during your non-welding activities. You also need to be going to a school that has a strong welding program in order to get this scholarship – they want to fund future champions of the welding world and you can’t just go anywhere. While they give out multiple scholarships per year based on the quality of the applicants, we suggest that you, as with any scholarship, should give the application 110% and make it terrific. It’s time for you tilt down your mask, light up your blowtorch, and make something beautiful.

The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship

Are you an aspiring Tony Hawk? If you stick “Anarchy” stickers on those “No Skateboarding” signs, you still may be sent to the principal’s office, but at least your chances are better at getting the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship. This unusual college scholarship is given to high school seniors who promote skateboarding in their community. One first-place individual gets a $5000 scholarship, and three runners-up get $1000 each. The scholarship is given in memory of Patrick Kerr, a skateboard enthusiast and activist from Philly.

How do you get this crazy college scholarship? In addition to the usual information, you need to hand in a 500-word essay about how skateboarding has been a positive influence in your life, and hand in two letters of recommendation from adults who can attest to your skateboarding lifestyle. How do you get an edge in this crazy scholarship? You need to be a skateboarding activist, and send in documentation about your various (legal) skateboarding promotion activities.

Wondering who decides the winner of this crazy scholarship? Remember Tony Hawk? He is on the scholarship committee among other professional skateboarders. Are you reluctant to apply for this scholarship knowing that these skateboard hot-shots are making the decisions? Don’t worry, skateboarding skill does not factor in the decisions this college scholarship, and in fact they ask that you not send videos of you grinding down the handrails of your local police station.

So set aside your board and get cranking on that essay and hand out some flyers about how skateboarding is good for your health – you can find out more about this crazy college scholarship here.
