Vegetarian Scholarship

Date: March 11th, 2009 Category: Lifestyle

Do you pass on the meat, fish, and fowl? The Vegetarian Resource Group offers two $5000 scholarships to graduating high school students who promote vegetarianism in their schools and communities. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Vegetarian Resource Group can offer these scholarships every year. There is a pretty substantial application process for this crazy scholarship, including a thorough essay describing your vegetarian lifestyle, ambitions, as well as vegetarian-advice for non-vegetarians. While not required, it helps to know people who are involved in the vegetarian movement, and you can list them as references in your scholarship application. Your school of choice does not matter, nor does your field of study, as this is a lifestyle-based scholarship. However the more material you can provide to the scholarship board about your support for vegetarianism, the better. This can be in the form of writing, creative material, or any materials you’ve used relating to promoting vegetarianism in your community. One of the more interesting questions we found on the scholarship application is to describe “your perfect life in five years”. Maybe it’s just the veggies, but we would avoid mentioning meat in this scholarship application, unless it’s breathing and making cute noises.
The college scholarship application has an interesting note on it regarding the property of your work: Once you submit your work, it becomes property of the Vegetarian Resource Group, most likely for them to use to generate creative ideas for their efforts in promoting vegetarianism. So if you really support the veggies, then this weird scholarship is for you. You can find out more about the Vegetarian Scholarship on the Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship website.
